So it’s Serena Williams against Lucie Safarova in the final of the Women’s singles at Roland Garros and to be honest there are questions marks against both of them prior to the match.
Serena (1/3) certainly wasn’t well during her semi-final victory over Timea Bacsinszky despite this she still overcame her opponent in 3 sets. Will she have had enough time to recover from this in the intervening 2 day period, I suppose we will only know once we see her out on the court.
Lucie Safarova (5/2) by her own admission struggled to get over the winning line when she only had to serve it out in her semi-final against Ana Ivanovic, granted she overcame the nerves to win eventually but there must be a doubt if the same situation arises in an even bigger match which this undoubtedly is.
So that’s what we learnt from the semi-finals, history between the two players suggests only one result with Williams holding an impressive 8-0 H2H record against her opponent, those 8 wins gained for the loss of only 3 sets. They have met twice on clay in the tournament in Charleston, however that is played on green clay which is significantly different surface to that seem here at Roland Garros.
For me the prices reflect the uncertainly around the fitness of Serena, and there is no doubt that she would be a significantly shorter price if there was more confidence in her physical wellbeing.
Having said all of this I can’t get away from the fact that Serena has lost the opening set in 4 of her 6 matches here to date and at 19/10 this play on Safarova to repeat the feat is an obvious one, as does the fact that on each occasion Serena has come back to win the match, this offering is quoted at 5/1 and is a must in my mind to make up part of anyone’s portfolio for this match.
Another way to potentially make the most of this scenario of a slow start from Serena is to back Safarova to win the match and use the CIMB facility to take a profit if you feel that Serena will come back and regain control of the match. The CIMB facility is another excellent way of controlling the fate of any wager and is incredibly popular with our clients.
In conclusion it’s a match full of uncertainty and this only makes it all the more interesting for viewing on a Saturday afternoon. Join us for our full service of In Play markets from the start of the match to its ultimate conclusion
