French Open champion Maria Sharapova has been announced as the top seed for Wimbledon today just as a number of her rivals struggle for form in the lead up to SW19.
Sharapova is 11/4 co favourite to win alongside Serena Williams, with last year’s winner Kvitova a 7/2 shot. Kvitova, Caroline Wozniacki and Agnieszka Radwanska were all early departures from Eastbourne as was Roland Garros finalist, Sara Errani.
On the back of these results, William Hill have seen money on Sharapova to win Wimbledon at 11/4.
“Sharapova won the French Open and it is a case of trying to catch the Russian now. Everyone else seems to be out of form and we don’t expect the 11/4 to be around much longer.” Said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
