Back from dead! Fed boosts beyond the grave Oxfam bet

Posted on by admin

Roger Federer’s extraordinary recovery to win from two sets down has given new life to the hopes of charity Oxfam that they could benefit to the tune of £101,000 from a beyond the grave bet should the Swiss land his 7th Wimbledon triumph.

Bookmakers William Hill took a bet of £1520 at odds of 66/1 from punter Nick Newlife in 2003 that Federer would win seven Wimbledon titles before the year 2019. Sadly, he died in 2009, but left the bet in his will to Oxfam, who now stand to collect the £101,000 winnings if 11/4 second favourite Federer adds to his current 6 titles in the next six years.

‘This is a unique situation in my 40 year experience of the bookmaking world’ said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. ‘Mr Newlife’s bet could land six figure winnings from beyond the grave, and in sporting terms Roger Federer came back from the dead to keep the dream alive for Oxfam and all his fans’

Tournament Winner: 4/5 Djokovic; 11/4 Federer; 5/1 Murray; 9/1 Tsonga; 25/1 Del Potro; 33/1 Rosol. Others on request.
