Andy Is The Man For Punters… A Third Of All Bets On British Star To Win

Posted on by admin

Once again, William Hill are slightly nervous of Andy Murray, with 36% of all Wimbledon outright bets placed on the British star.  At the start of the tournament, William Hill were offering 4/1 for Murray to win the Men’s Singles title but as the big names have crumbled under the pressure, it would appear that only Novak Djokovic (at 10/11) stands between Murray (5/4) and his maiden Wimbledon title.

“Andy Murray is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best British tennis player since Fred Perry and as such we are attracting money from both punters backing with their hearts and those backing with their heads,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “When Tim Henman was in his prime we saw a lot of sentimental  punters and he would attract an awful lot of money but those amounts are now less than half of what we are seeing for Andy this year.”

Gentleman’s Wimbledon singles: 10/11 Novak Djokovic; 5/4 Andy Murray; 16/1 Jerzy Janowicz; 25/1 David Ferrer; 25/1 Juan Martin del Potro; 25/1 Tomas Berdych; 66/1 Fernando Verdasco; 150/1 Lukasz Kubot.
